Lyons-La-Foret

Lyons-la-Forêt, a strong Norman spirit.

This village, which is said to have been built around a fortified castle built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror and completed by his youngest son, King Henri Ier dit Beauclerc, is classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
Most of the buildings date from the 16th century: the town hall, former seat of the bailiwick and its courtroom with period furniture or the magnificent hall in the heart of the village. The half-timbered houses of the 17th and 18th centuries, the typical Norman streets surrounded the old feudal castle and its ramparts.
As its name suggests, a forest estate extends to the outskirts of the village of Lyons and currently constitutes one of the most beautiful beech forests in Europe. Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the trails which also allow cyclists and horse riders to admire this exceptional site.
Today, the hall hosts the market and many cultural events that make the undisputed charm of Lyons-la-Forêt.
Having a drink on the terrace, strolling through the streets lined with half-timbered houses, being tempted by local pastries or even, for the most gourmet, savoring some dishes from Chef Christophe Poirier at the starred restaurant La Licorne Royale will make this visit an experience. unavoidable.
