Set in the Seine valley, in the heart of the loops of the river, Les Andelys is above all a cultural and historical destination and invites you to discover its natural and built wealth.
The city of Andelys is the meeting of two originally distinct localities, Grand Andely to the east and Petit Andely by the river.
Château-Gaillard, built in 1297 by Richard the Lionheart, King of England, is the Andelys tourist beacon. This fortress was to defend Rouen.
The site, which retains impressive remains, offers a magnificent panorama of the Seine valley, certainly one of the most beautiful in Normandy.
An important religious center of the Gallo-Roman era, Le Grand Andely developed around the ancient Notre-Dame collegiate church. Built between the 13th and 16th centuries, it retains an exceptional collection of Renaissance stained glass windows, three paintings by Quentin Varin as well as a large contemporary stained glass window by Pierre Gaudin.
After your getaway to the castle, discover the Sainte Clotilde Fountain located near the Museum of history Nicolas Poussin, native of the city, which contains memories of the painter and the famous canvas, Corolian.
